Herald claims Australian officials to defend racism at UN

The Sydney Morning Herald reports that Australian officials will have to defend government policies in relation to the NT Intervention and the targeting of Tamil and Afghan asylum seekers when they meet with UN Human Rights officials in Geneva today. Graeme Innes the Australian Human Rights and Race Discrimination Commissioner has been involved in active discussions with NGOs on these issues and has been critical of Government actions. It will be interesting therefore to read Graeme's tweets from Geneva, in the context of the ICERD report he has prepared and to which he will speak. Bridging the divide through digital technologies

MyLanguage conference will explore how digital technologies can assist CALD communities to achieve social inclusion and maintain linguistic and cultural identity. The New South Wales State Library is hosting the three day My Language conference from August 9-August 11 in Sydney.
The MyLanguage group has been set up to discuss the needs for
information and content creation by culturally and linguistically
diverse communities, focusing on digital inclusion initiatives and
strategies involving humanitarian entrants and refugees.
It is
also a forum for discussing the future directions of the MyLanguage
project with respect to its vision of using information technologies to
enable libraries to empower CALD communities to: achieve greater social
inclusion, and maintain and enrich cultural and linguistic diversity.
